Norman Red Star Pottery Size: 11Hx11W Artist Profile Norman Red Star, Wi-Cahpe-Luza, Swift Star, was born into the Sioux Nation in 1955. He was inspired to continue the long lived tradition of crafting art by his uncle, the famous Red Starr. Norman began working with art at the age of 16. He started with crafting beadwork and at the age of 24 began hand carving sculptures on stone. By the age of 26, Norman began painting and by 40 he added pottery making to his artistic repertoire. Norman now specializes in hand crafting the traditional Santa Clara pottery with sgraffito etchings. He gets his ideas from hunting and Mother Nature herself. His designs include animal legends and is often accented with turquoise stones. The finished pottery is always a welcomed sight to see, Norman said. Norman signs his pottery Wi-Cahpe-Luza, Red Star, followed by a shield symbol and his census number. Learn More
